“There’s a huge consumer demand for solar power.” Metzger said the public understands investing in clean energy like solar not only decreases dependence on fossil fuels, but also creates jobs. “Texas is well placed to be a world solar leader,” he said. “We have some of the best resources … We’re in a really great position to capitalize on this market.”

City Council Greenlights Energy Audits 11/06/2008

Austin homeowners soon will be required to pay for an energy audit of their houses before they can sell them. The measure was adopted unanimously Thursday by Austin City Council.

Formosa fined for releases 11/06/2008

Luke Metzger, director of Environment Texas in Austin, doesn't know if the TCEQ penalties are enough. "For a company with annual revenues of more than $5 billion a year, a fine of that size is unlikely to have much of a deterrent effect," Metzger said. "Hopefully they don't just pay the fine and go back to their polluting ways."
